That way you know that you didn't make any mistakes taking down the information, and you can send the picture to your insurance company so that they have the information as well. Another thing that you should do is get a record of the damage done to your car, the other car or cars, and any property. If you can, take pictures of the damage. That way no one can come back at a later date and claim damage that isn't related to the accident. It probably won't be something that you have to have, but it is one of those things that it would be good to have, and this is really the only time that you can get the most accurate information about the damage, so it's better to get it and not need it than the other way around.
